Day 7: Following the Star

“…the star they had seen when it rose went ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the child was. When they saw the star, they were overjoyed.” — Matthew 2:9–10 (NIV)

The Magi from the East were guided by a divine light to the newborn King. Though not part of Israel’s covenant family, God drew them into His redemptive story. Their journey reminds us that all nations and all creation move under God’s orchestration, and He even commands the stars to point toward His Son (Numbers 24:17).

The Magi teach us what it means to follow divine direction. They were seekers, curious about the signs of their world and willing to ask questions. When the star appeared, they didn’t hesitate to act. They stepped into the unknown with courage and faith, following the glimmers of revelation before them.

They also walked with discernment. Though they stood in the courts of King Herod, they weren’t swayed by power or appearance. When God warned them in a dream, they obeyed and chose a quieter path home (Matthew 2:12).

And they were humble. Their spiritual pursuit led to physical worship, bowing low before the Christ Child and offering treasures of gold, frankincense, and myrrh (Matthew 2:11). Their posture of honor, hearts of worship, and generous spirits remind us what it means to follow Jesus with delight.

We, too, are called to be seekers of the Morning Star (Revelation 22:16). As His light rises in our hearts (2 Peter 1:19), may we stay watchful for His leading, courageous to follow where He shines, and ready to offer our best in joyful worship and service.
