CONFIDENCE: THE BEDROCK OF EFFECTIVE PRAYER

Prayer is the believer’s greatest privilege, yet many enter into it without the confidence needed to secure results. Confidence is the bedrock of effective prayer. Without it, you will only mumble words into the air. One of the greatest attacks of the devil is to steal your confidence—before you pray, while you pray, or after you pray. A man who loses confidence before prayer will never approach God boldly. A man who loses it during prayer will abandon his requests midway. And the man who loses it after prayer will cancel his own answers with doubt and unbelief. Don’t forget that the Bible says, “Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompense of reward” (Heb. 10:35). That confidence is what secures the delivery of heaven’s answers to your petitions.

I want to lead you on a journey through the subject of Praying with Assurance (keys to profit and progress), but I will begin with confidence because it is the foundation. If your confidence is intact, the devil cannot cheat you. If it is broken, you may have been praying for years without tangible results. John writes: “And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us” (1 John 5:14). Notice the emphasis—it is confidence that we have, not guesswork, not wishful thinking. If you go into prayer rooms without confidence, you will come out empty. Confidence assures you that God is listening, that His Word cannot fail, and that your prayer is not wasted breath. Confidence is the divine backbone of prayer.

I want you to begin this devotional by checking your confidence. Do you pray as one speaking to a living God, or are you only reciting complaints? Do you rise from prayer certain that God has heard, or do you walk away wondering if anything happened? Confidence is not arrogance; it is faith rooted in the knowledge of who God is and what He has said. As you walk through these daily devotionals, settle it in your heart that your confidence must not be cast away. Guard it before prayer, hold it during prayer, and confess it after prayer until your answers manifest. This is the secret of men who obtain results at heaven’s throne.

THOUGHT TO PONDER:
Is my prayer life built on confidence in God or on guesswork? How will I guard my confidence before, during, and after prayer this devotional?

PRAYER:
Lord, strengthen my confidence in You. Let me never doubt Your Word, and help me to carry bold assurance before, during, and after every prayer, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
