Seek First 365: A One Year Bible Reading Plan for Daily Devotion

DAY 55 OF 365

Reflection:

  • In verses 14-17, what example did James give that declares faith without action is dead? Have you ever experienced a similar situation where someone said kind words without actually giving help, or have you ever been the one who has wished someone well without helping him or her?
  • In verses 18-19, who did James write was the one who believes in God, and what point was he making with this statement?
  • In verses 20-26, what examples from the Old Testament does James 2 give? How do these stories reveal the importance of our actions when it comes to our faith?

Pray and Apply:

James mentions both Abraham and Rahab as people who were considered righteous by not only what they believed but also by what they did. Read Genesis 22:1-19 and Joshua 2 either now or at some point today. Reflect on these accounts of how faith in God was proven by their actions. Think about what they risked and how God responded to each of their acts of faith. Ask God to show you what faith in action looks like in your own life.

About this Plan

Seek First 365: A One Year Bible Reading Plan for Daily Devotion

Seek First 365 is a one-year Bible reading plan designed to help you build a daily rhythm of reading Scripture, meditating on God’s Word, praying, and journaling. Each day is crafted to help you linger in God’s Word, listen to the Spirit, and let His truth shape your heart, mind, and life.
