Reflection:
- In verses 1-3, where do quarrels and fights begin?
- In verses 4-6, what makes God’s people adulterous in their relationships with God?
- How do we overcome the desires that rage within us and the wickedness of the world, as stated in verses 6-11? What posture must we take before God to experience His empowering grace?
- How are we to treat each other in verses 11-12, and how does this reflect a humility God desires us to have?
Pray and Apply:
Spend a few minutes in prayer. Ask the Holy Spirit to examine your heart. Where have you been tempted by corrupt motives, and how has that led to conflict, discord or disconnection with others? Repent of any jealousy, lust, greed, selfishness and pride that the Holy Spirit may reveal to you. Practice steering your heart in the right direction (verses 7-10). Submit yourself to God’s will and draw near to God with a repentant and hopeful heart. Receive His grace, love and direction. Thank God and celebrate that He always offers grace and lifts you up!
