DAY 4 OF 5

Religion vs. Expectation – Day 4

When Jesus healed the paralyzed man, some religious leaders criticized Him because it happened on the Sabbath (John 5:10–12). Imagine that! A man was healed after almost 40 years, and all they cared about was the rule!

That’s what religiosity does—it focuses on appearances and forgets about people. It goes through the motions without faith or expectation. But Jesus wants the opposite: for us to live each day expecting His power at work.

The Bible says:

“Without faith it is impossible to please God.”
(Hebrews 11:6, NIV)
And Jesus declared:
“Everything is possible for one who believes.”
(Mark 9:23, NIV)

It’s not about following routines but believing that He can intervene at any moment.

In daily life, religiosity is like turning on a TV and leaving it on “black screen mode”: it looks on, but shows nothing. That’s what faith looks like when there’s no expectation.

Today, the Lord invites you to step out of spiritual routine and ignite your faith. Don’t live on autopilot—live every day expecting God to surprise you.

Talk with God and open your heart:

Lord, I don’t want to fall into empty or routine faith. I want to live every day expecting to see Your hand at work. Renew my faith and awaken my heart with Your power. Amen.

Think about this:
Does your spiritual life reflect religiosity or expectation in God?
What can you do today to awaken a more active and living faith?

Coming up on Day 5: Rise Up and Walk
Tomorrow, we’ll see how Jesus calls us to rise up in faith and walk in the purpose He has prepared for us.

About this Plan

Get Out of Sleep Mode

Many times, we live on autopilot, as if we were in “sleep mode”: without active faith, trapped in routine, waiting for wrong solutions, or doubting God’s power. The story of the paralyzed man at the Pool of Bethesda (John 5) shows us that Jesus comes into our lives to awaken us from spiritual lethargy and give us new strength. This 5-day plan invites you to awaken your faith, trust that God is your way out, and rise up to walk in His purpose.
