Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two

DAY 44 OF 365

For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it to you upon the altar to make atonement for your souls (Leviticus 17:11 NKJV).

Have you ever thought about the fact that Jesus was cursed for your sake?

To understand this, we turn to the ancient rituals described in Leviticus 16: The Day of Atonement. It was a solemn occasion when the Jewish high priest would offer sacrifices for his own sins and then for the sins of the people. Now, enter Jesus, our great High Priest, who didn't need to offer a sacrifice for His own sin because He had none. Instead, He uniquely offered Himself as the sacrifice for ours.

Picture this: Our Lord, the sinless one, adorned with a crown of thorns. The significance of those thorns traces back to Adam and Eve's sin, where the earth was first impacted with thorns (Genesis 3:18). Now, connect the dots to Galatians 3:13 (NKJV), where Paul declares, "Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree." Jesus, the High Priest, willingly took upon Himself our sin on the tree, on the cross.

The author of Hebrews beautifully captures this truth, describing Jesus as a High Priest fitting for us—holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and exalted above the heavens (Hebrews 7:26).

Praise God that His Son was willing to be cursed for our sake in order to redeem us!

Employment Point: Believe on the sinless High Priest who took the sin of the world upon Himself.

About this Plan

Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two

Devotions on F.I.R.E. journeys through the Bible in one year. Each day includes a devotion based on Dr. Burge’s F.I.R.E. method of Bible Study. F.I.R.E. stands for Familiarity, Interpretation, Relationship, and Employment. The F.I.R.E. method and the daily devotions help readers remember and apply what they read as they fuel the fire in their hearts for God’s Word—adapted from the book Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two, by Dr. Ken J. Burge, Sr.
