Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two

DAY 46 OF 365

Whoever desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me (Mark 8:34 NKJV).

As a Christian, who are you discipling?

Jesus, the ultimate teacher, challenges us to define our lives with two powerful words: "make disciples." It's not just a suggestion; it's a command, a calling that reverberates through the ages.

Imagine you're handed a baton in a relay race. Your task is not only to run your stretch but also to pass it on to the next runner. Similarly, Jesus entrusts us with the mission to make disciples. In Matthew 28:18–20, He outlines a process—going, baptizing, and teaching—that forms the foundation of true discipleship.

The apostle Paul, in 2 Timothy 2:2 (NKJV), beautifully articulates this relay of discipleship. "Commit these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also." It's a cycle that extends beyond our immediate circle, reaching out globally. The Great Commission is not confined to local boundaries; it's a call to preach the gospel to every creature, just as Jesus intended (Acts 1:8).

Christ has called you to be like a stone that is thrown into a calm pond. The initial splash sends ripples outward, touching distant shores. In the same way, your commitment to making disciples creates waves that extend far beyond your immediate impact. So, let me ask you one more time: Who are you discipling?

Employment Point: Obey the Great Commission to fulfill your life mission.

About this Plan

Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two

Devotions on F.I.R.E. journeys through the Bible in one year. Each day includes a devotion based on Dr. Burge’s F.I.R.E. method of Bible Study. F.I.R.E. stands for Familiarity, Interpretation, Relationship, and Employment. The F.I.R.E. method and the daily devotions help readers remember and apply what they read as they fuel the fire in their hearts for God’s Word—adapted from the book Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two, by Dr. Ken J. Burge, Sr.
