Mama, You Be the Difference

DAY 3 OF 5

The Wise Woman

Are there times when you ask God to keep you one step ahead in a particular situation—or with the actions of a three-year-old, ha! Wisdom is wrapped up in the love and commitment of our Savior to guide us along the way. A wise woman turns from the world’s beliefs about her to the love of the Father.

As you abide in God’s love, you will gain a strength and confidence beyond yourself. His love for you will become a firm foundation to build your days upon, a courage to protect your household, and a strength when things seem to be crumbling around you.

There’s a difference between worldly wisdom and biblical wisdom. Today, we can gain all the humanly possible knowledge we can comprehend. Everything is at the touch of a screen. But the wisdom we’re talking about is the wisdom that comes from above. Wisdom is more than knowledge; it is also our character. Wisdom is knowing how and when to apply the knowledge we gain. There will be times when godly wisdom won’t make sense to a watching world, but when we’re acting out of obedience to God, we gain an eternal perspective.

A person can be smart, clever, and insightful, but without character, there’s an absence of authentic wisdom. This heavenly wisdom is marked with the residue of righteousness—A desire to be pure in motive and peace-loving in relationships. They defer to the needs of others, submit to authority, initiate empathy, bear the fruit of the Spirit, gather all the facts before making a decision, and are genuine in their concerns.

Let me say this again: You won’t get this right all the time. You’re a work in progress just like everyone else. But you’ll still need to put one foot in front of the other and keep marching on. Oh yes, there will be days you wish you didn’t say or do a particular thing, or that you didn’t overreact to a situation. There may be times you wish you had a do-over. There will even be days when you don’t stay ahead of your toddler and are taken aback by his or her actions. But this is what I can tell you: Our God is a God of love and second (and third, and fourth, and...) chances. He is a God who wants to bestow His wisdom on you.

Reflection:

According to 1 Kings 3, King Solomon was told by God that he could ask for anything he wanted and he would receive it. Instead of asking for a long life, riches, popularity, or power, Solomon asked for wisdom. He understood that the “wisdom that comes from above” is the one thing we need more than anything else if we are to be what God wants us to be. Have you asked God for wisdom today?
