DAY 4 OF 7

Did God Really Say?

It began with a question: “Did God really say...?”
With those four words, the enemy sowed the first seed of doubt. He didn’t just challenge a rule—he attacked God’s character. If God really loved you, wouldn’t He let you have what you want? If He truly cared, why would He hold something back?
That ancient strategy is still active today, and one of its favourite battlefields is the modern workplace.

In the rush of deadlines, the pursuit of success, and the weight of performance, subtle questions begin to creep in:

  • Did God really say to work with integrity, even if it costs you a promotion?
  • Did God really say to love your coworkers—even the difficult ones?
  • Did God really say you shouldn’t flirt or cross boundaries, even if it feels harmless?
  • Did God really say your identity is in Him—not in your achievements, salary, or job title?

The serpent’s voice doesn’t always sound like evil. Sometimes it disguises itself as ambition, self-preservation, or even team loyalty. It might come through a manager asking you to tweak numbers or a culture that rewards cutthroat competition. Over time, we may begin to justify small compromises. We start seeing others as obstacles instead of image-bearers. We chase validation from performance instead of abiding in God’s approval.

But when we entertain these lies, we build a workplace culture shaped by fear and falsehood. We strive instead of serve, isolate instead of collaborate, and hide our faith instead of living it out. The result is exhaustion, division, and disillusionment.

Jesus offers another way.

In John 8:32, He says, “Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” That truth doesn’t change with the economy or your industry. God is still good. His ways still lead to life. His Word still speaks—yes, even in your work emails, board meetings, and performance reviews.

You don’t need to cheat to succeed. You don’t have to dim your faith to fit in. You don’t have to compromise to climb the ladder. The values of God’s Kingdom—honesty, humility, grace, and justice—are not naive. They are revolutionary. When you live them out, you point to a better way, a higher truth, a lasting hope.

So when the enemy whispers, “Did God really say...?” you can answer with confidence:
“Yes, He did—and I believe Him.”

Prayer
Father, in a world full of doubt and deception, help me to anchor my heart in Your truth. Please open my eyes to the subtle lies that creep into my thinking at work. Give me courage to live with integrity, to love with grace, and to trust in Your goodness—even when it’s difficult. Let my daily work reflect Your unshakable truth. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
