DAY 1 OF 7

Why Your Work Deeply Matters To God

It’s easy to draw invisible lines between what feels spiritual and what doesn’t. We usually associate God with Sunday services, morning devotions, and quiet prayers—but our work? That often feels like a separate world. Yet Scripture refuses to make that divide. In God’s eyes, all of life is sacred, including your work.

Why does your work matter to God?

Because God Himself is a worker.
From the very beginning, God introduced Himself as Creator. For six days, He formed, shaped, ordered, and breathed life into the world—and then declared it “very good” (Genesis 1:31). You were made in His image. That means you were designed to work—to build, organise, solve problems, care for people, and bring beauty and order to the world. When you work with diligence and integrity, you reflect God’s character.

Because your work is a way to love others.
Whether you lead a team, raise children, sell groceries, care for patients, or clean hallways, your work meets real needs. Jesus said the greatest among us is the one who serves (Matthew 23:11). Every task done with care becomes a tangible act of service. When you bring excellence and kindness to your workplace, you join God’s mission to bless the world.

Because your workplace is your mission field.
You spend a large part of your life at work. That’s where you form relationships, face challenges, and influence others—many of whom may never enter a church. You don’t need to preach from your desk to make a difference. Your commitment to excellence, your behaviour, your honesty, your composure in crisis, the way you treat your co-workers and your willingness to listen can all point to the hope within you. Your faith lived out with consistency and grace speaks volumes.

And because you matter to God.
Your value isn’t tied to your job title or salary cheque. God delights in all of your life—not just in your spiritual practices, but in the late nights spent on preparing a business presentation, the hard conversations, the patient parenting, and even the mundane chores. When you do your work wholeheartedly, even when it’s difficult or unseen, you’re offering it to God as worship. He sees it. And He is pleased.

Colossians 3:23 redefines how we approach our day: “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord.” You’re not just clocking in or reporting to the boss—you’re honouring the One who gave you your gifts, your position, and your purpose.

So today, see your workspace—whether it’s a boardroom, a kitchen, a classroom, or a job site—as holy ground. God is not distant from your daily grind. He is present—shaping you, working through you, and using your efforts to bring light and life to the world.

Prayer:
Lord, thank You for the gift of work. Help me see it through Your eyes—as a way to reflect You, serve others, and grow in faith. Remind me that no task is too small when done in love for You. Teach me to work with joy, excellence, and purpose, knowing You are with me every step. Amen.
