Peter’s Mother-in-Law is Healed

There was a joke that used to circulate, claiming that Peter denied Jesus because Jesus had healed his mother-in-law. Jokes apart, this is a very down-to-earth, everyday kind of miracle that we might overlook or belittle. The beauty of this minor incident is in how Jesus meets us in our mundane. He walked into Peter’s house and on seeing that his mother-in-law unwell goes on to touch her and heal her.

What would it look like for Jesus to meet you in your mundane?

Have you invited Him to touch your work, your body, your mind, your closest relationships, your dreams and desires?

Jesus meets us right where we are. He doesn’t wait for us to attain some sort of higher level spiritually to meet with us but instead, like those two men on the road to Emmaus, He meets you as you journey through each day. When we are struggling to understand His word or His ways He could send us help like He did for the Ethiopian palace official whom Philip met and evangelised to, in his chariot by the side of the road.

This is our God who meets us in our everyday life without pomp and splendour, making the ordinary things beautiful.

Don’t make the mistake of waiting for the miraculous and miss God in the mundane. The mundane becomes glorious when Christ enters it and touches it with his hands.
