DAY 5 OF 5

Day 5 – Following The Burning Fire Inside

A divine opportunity often ignites a God-given fire in your spirit—an inner prompting that you simply cannot ignore.

Throughout this journey, we have learned to recognize divine opportunities through four key indicators: they challenge us in our weakness, call us to trust beyond logic, require us to uphold integrity, and teach us to wait patiently. Yet there is one final sign that often speaks louder than the others: the inner fire God ignites in us when He is preparing something new for our lives.

In fact, there are moments when God speaks directly to our spirit, placing in our hearts an unshakable desire that, over time, becomes stronger and harder to ignore. As Philippians 2:13 reveals, “For it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill His good purpose.” (CSB)

God does not only lead us to act according to His will, He also stirs within us the desire to pursue what aligns with His purpose. This is the essence of the fifth indicator that helps us discern a divine opportunity: an urgency within us, birthed by the Holy Spirit.

Sometimes, God speaks by placing the weight of a new and unexpected responsibility on our hearts—one that, from the very beginning, feels undeniably ours. That is what happened to Esther. She never aspired or dreamed of becoming a queen, but when the people of Israel faced the threat of annihilation, something was awakened within her. It was not an audible voice, or a dream, or a vision, it was a sense of urgency that spoke directly to her spirit.

Mordecai’s words gave clarity and affirmation to the burden she was carrying by saying: “And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?” (Esther 4:14, NIV). After days of fasting and prayer, Esther turned that inner desire into bold action (Esther 4:16), and her obedience—born out of divine urgency—changed the destiny of an entire nation (Esther 8:5–6, 11–17).

Similar to Esther, we sometimes feel a persistent tug on our hearts—an urgency we cannot ignore. Whether it is the prompting to start a new project, to say “yes” to an unexpected invitation, or to rebuild something we once set aside, that inner stirring is often a sign that God is trying to get our attention. It is a sign that He is trying to align our desires with His.

Responding to that fire within may feel risky. However, ignoring it is the bigger danger. The reason is that when God ignites something new in our hearts, it is never meaningless, it is always for a purpose far greater than ourselves. It is an invitation to step into a divine plan that transforms not only our own story, but also the lives of those around us.

Is there a persistent urgency tugging at your heart regarding a decision you need to make? Does it come with God’s peace, or the pressure of a desired outcome? Take time to write down what you are sensing and ask for confirmation through prayer or by seeking counsel from a spiritual mentor.

Prayer:
Lord, help me recognize Your voice above the noise—to discern what is truly from You and what is simply my own desire. When I feel an urgency that will not leave my heart, show me if it is from You, and give me the peace that confirms Your guidance. Give me the courage to obey—even when it feels risky. Thank You, Lord, because I know that whatever You ignite in me is never in vain, but always destined to bear fruit for Your Kingdom. Amen.
