Don't Quit

DAY 4 OF 9

When you want to quit because you’re…confused

Being lost is an unsettling feeling.

In the days before we had computers in our pockets, maps in the United States came on paper that was in a 400-page book for cities and 2 feet by 3 feet sheets of paper that folded down to 4 inches by 9 inches for individual states. It wasn’t a pleasant voice on your phone that told you when and where to turn; it was usually an irritated friend or spouse in the passenger seat who was saying loudly, “You were supposed to turn back there!”

When we get emotionally or spiritually lost, it is called confusion. We find ourselves unsure about next steps, indecisive about decisions we feel the need to make, in a fog about what is true. We are confused.

Confusion can lead to discouragement. Discouragement leads to and is reinforced by negative self-talk. Negative self-talk tells you to quit.

When we find ourselves in a state of confusion, it is important to ground ourselves in truth. And the best direction to look when seeking the truth is towards Jesus. He is the One who said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life.” Confusion is common in life. And every time it shows its ugly head, it is the opportunity to exercise faith and choose to turn to Jesus.

Keep Going. Don’t Quit.

Questions to Consider

  • When do you find yourself getting lost? What is the trigger that sends you in that direction?
  • What is a truth about Jesus that reorients you and grounds you?

Actions to Take

  • Commit to memorizing two or three scripture passages that ground you and remind you of what is true.
  • Memorize the Lord’s Prayer (see Matthew 6:9-13) and say it the first thing when you awake and the last thing before you go to sleep.

Prayer to Make

Heavenly Father, you are the God of order, and Satan is the source of confusion. When I find myself confused, give me the strength to turn my eyes and my thoughts to you so I can see the truth and know the truth. I ask you to dispel the fog and shine your pure light upon my thinking and emotions so that I might live in peace. Amen.

About this Plan

Don't Quit

Do you feel like you are stuck and discouraged? Are you ready to give up? Hypomone is the Greek word for Steadfast Endurance. It’s the “Don’t Quit” challenge. We face a lot of temptations and reasons to give up. If you find yourself in that place, open your mind up to hear from God’s Word on why you should keep pressing forward. Don't quit because you're tired, bored, burned out, confused by an obstacle, distracted, impatient, or in conflict with someone.
