Greatness: Matthew 14-20ਨਮੂਨਾ

Our world does not value humility and servanthood. Those who are seen as “great” in the world are mostly the wealthy and powerful: celebrities, influencers, business people, politicians and entrepreneurs. A house cleaner or a rubbish truck driver wouldn’t typically come to mind when you think of greatness.
But the Kingdom of God is different! Jesus values humility and servanthood. He modelled it. He is the servant King. In Philippians, Paul writes that Jesus humbled Himself to death on the cross so that we could be saved. And, in today’s verses in Matthew, Jesus says, “but whoever would be great among you must be your servant” (Matthew 20:26, ESV). We are to follow His example of humility. Paul implores us to, “do nothing from selfish conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves” (Philippians 2:3, ESV).
Wherever you find yourself, these words of Jesus resound. We are to consider everyone more significant than ourselves, and seek the good of others. As Jesus said, “even as the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve” (Matthew 20:28, ESV). Our world would be very different if Christians really lived the way that Jesus did!
Today, ponder this: How might you live today as Jesus did, serving others and thinking of the needs of others in humility? Pray and ask the Holy Spirit to help you!
