Decisions, Decisions
Decision-making can be difficult at best. Sometimes it is downright impossible to know which choice is the best choice. Various sources suggest that the average adult will make 33,000–35,000 decisions daily. That’s way too many decisions to make without His guidance.
I remember one day, I was leaving the church and heading home. I would normally take the same route every day. Subconsciously, I had created a routine for getting to the house. As I was driving, I heard the Spirit say, “Slow down!” Now I wasn’t speeding, so it took me by surprise, but I was obedient and took my foot off the gas pedal. As soon as I did, a car came screeching out of a side street that was hidden by a corner house. I thought for sure that driver was going to lose control and crash into something. Had I not listened, I would have been what the other car crashed into. The incident went so fast that I would not have had time to react. In a split second, I had to decide whether to listen or disregard the voice of the Lord. Thankfully, I made the right choice because I knew His voice from spending time with Him daily. That is one of the many reasons why I am so thankful for God's Word, and to be able, through prayer, to have a one-on-one conversation with my Heavenly Father, who has my best interests at heart. To be able to hear His voice and know that God is speaking directly to me, and that He loves me and cares for my well-being, is priceless to me.
When faced with tough decisions, I know that I can go before His throne of grace and ask anything in His name, and He will respond. Hebrews 4:16 (NKJV) states, “Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” I love the Message paraphrase of this passage; it sounds like something I would say: “So let us walk right up to him and get what he is so ready to give. Take the mercy, accept the help.”
I want to encourage you today, if you are struggling to make Godly choices for your life, you are not alone. There was only one who walked this earth perfectly, and we are not Him. But through His ultimate sacrifice, He opened the door to the Father's house where there is mercy, grace, and help waiting for you—as a child of the living God—to boldly make your requests known. Take the mercy, accept the help.
