Choices

DAY 1 OF 5

Choose Life

Our lives are made up of choices, everyday decisions that change the direction in which we move through this life. Many choices are automatic and bundle together to form routines. Routines minimize thought processes, enabling us to focus on more important things. For example, we all have a routine for getting to work. Each task from the time we wake up to the time we get to work is a subconscious choice. Depending on the variables within that routine, there could be 50+ choices bundled together just to get us to work. There is usually no right or wrong in these routines; it simply comes down to habit and efficiency.

But what about the things that matter? Have we created routines in our family where our home life has become stale? What about God? What choices have we made toward him? As believers, the choices we make can lead us toward or away from God. A single decision, right or wrong, can be the catalyst for complete success or utter disaster. This may be an overly simplistic view of the complexities of life, but when measured against God's Word, our success or failure comes down to the daily choices we make. Deuteronomy 30:19 (NKJV) says,“…I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, so that you and your children may live…”God is giving us a choice: life or death, blessings or curses. Being the loving Father that He is, He tells us which decision we should make. Notice I said “should.” That’s because God has also given us all free will. This means that it is our choice whether we follow His instruction or not. Jeremiah 29:11(NLT) says, “For I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.” God desires to be a part of our lives, but if we refuse to open the door—if we choose to do things our way—we tie God’s hands from intervening on our behalf. This is why He said “choose life,” because He wants us to succeed in everything we do—so much so that He sent Jesus to show us how to walk in complete victory by making the right choices.

Some choices need no thought at all, but the ones that matter need your full attention because they are the choices that lead to life.
