How to Be a Discipleਨਮੂਨਾ

When I share ideas or visions with my wife, Jenny, she doesn’t always respond with the level of enthusiasm I expect. More often than not, she asks critical questions like, “Have you thought of this?” or “How is that going to work?” This frustrates me in the moment, and I’ll exclaim, “You’re not running with my idea!” But I’ve learned that in the long run, her questions lead to a much better plan.
Do you ever feel like other people are slowing you down?
In Luke 10:1, Jesus sent out His disciples:
“The Lord appointed seventy-two others and sent them two by two ahead of him to every town and place where he was about to go.”
Why would Jesus send them out two by two? Wouldn’t it be much more efficient to send them out individually so they could cover more ground?
Even the most zealous follower of Jesus will have challenging days when it is hard to persevere. Jesus paired them up because when one is weak, the other can be strong:
Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up. Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm. But how can one keep warm alone? Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken. – Ecclesiastes 4:9-12
Alone, you can go faster, but together, you can get further.
God designed us to rely on others–husbands and wives, parents and children, friends and even the body of Christ are all relationships designed to build one another up in love and unity.
