Love Your Neighbor

DAY 1 OF 7

Loving God

Loving God with all our heart, soul, and mind forms the starting point for our faith and everything else in life. This love is more than just a feeling or a duty; it is a genuine devotion expressed in everything we do. Jesus modeled this love by offering himself to the Father who loved him. When he attended a wedding, he loved God by celebrating with his friends. When he prayed, he loved God by drawing away to be with him in secret. When he healed people and performed miracles, he loved God by ministering to the overlooked and forgotten.

When Jesus proclaimed this as the greatest commandment, he wasn’t merely asking for obedience; he was inviting us into a relationship of love—one that transforms us from within. Loving God with all our heart means centering our affections and desires on him. He becomes our top priority, the one we seek above all else. To love him with all our soul reflects a deep and enduring connection where our very identity is anchored in him. Loving him with all our mind signifies aligning our thoughts, beliefs, and decisions with his truth. This kind of love isn’t passive; it’s active and intentional. It expresses itself through worship, obedience, trust, and a daily pursuit of knowing him better.

Jesus didn’t only feel love—his entire life was love. Every gesture, word, and action became an expression of love for his Father. He showed us what it looks like for a human to embody wholehearted love for God so that we might learn to embody love in our own lives.

Consider your daily rhythms—meals, work, chores, downtime. How was God present in these activities today?

Does any part of your life seem to get in the way of loving God?

Lord, I want to love you with all my heart, soul, and mind. Please help me to know you more deeply, trust you fully, and live in a way that honors you. Remove any distractions or fears that keep me from putting you first. Amen.
