40-Day Worship Experience Youth Devotional

DAY 7 OF 40

For many years, I’ve spent the first fifteen minutes of each day alone in the Lord’s presence. It has changed my life. One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that prayer doesn’t have to be complicated. Usually, I approach God with whatever is on my heart, and my prayers are very simple, like a child asking a parent for something they need or want.

For the rest of this devotional, we’re going to walk through some “simple prayers,” as I call them. These are not meant to be the way you must pray, but rather a way you could pray. They are examples of things to say when you seek God in the morning. I hope these short prayers will be a launchpad for you to develop greater closeness to God.

The first simple prayer is this: “Jesus, I surrender my will to Yours.” Surrender is an act of worship. It unlocks your heart to experience God’s presence. By surrendering your life to Him, you give him control.

Society and culture sometimes say that surrender is bad, that you must always win, conquer, and rule. But when you surrender to God, you remind yourself that He is God—and you are not. You recognize that He is good, powerful, right, and involved in your life. There is nothing negative about that! This is the kind of surrender that a child feels when they fall asleep in their parent’s arms, relaxed and trusting, knowing they are safe and loved.

Surrender involves your heart, mind, thoughts, plans, decisions, and emotions. Try it this morning. Give God everything you have, everything you are, everything you plan to do and to be. Pray, “Jesus, I surrender my will to Yours.”

Reflect

What does it mean to you to surrender your life to Jesus? What specific areas do you choose to surrender to Him today?

About this Plan

40-Day Worship Experience Youth Devotional

Welcome to the 40-Day Worship Experience Youth Devotional! This is a time each morning to experience God’s presence for yourself. First, find a quiet space to be alone with Jesus for fifteen minutes before you start your day. All you need is your Bible, worship music, and a place to write down any ideas that come to you. Then, use the devotional readings, Bible verses, and reflection questions as a starting point to spend a few minutes with God. As you do, I believe you’ll build an exciting relationship that will transform every area of your life.
