EquipHer Vol. 15: "Beyond the Title and Position"

DAY 1 OF 5

Day 1 – What is Your Primary Role?

"So many people say 'Go find your purpose'. But your purpose is not actually on the outside of you. Your purpose is on the inside of you." – Sheree Cain Jones

On a recent Instagram Live session, Sheree Cain Jones posed a challenging question to our viewers: "Who are you when the roles you hold change or are taken away?" It’s a simple question, yet it strikes to the core. It’s easy to identify ourselves by what we do: "I’m a manager," "I’m an entrepreneur," "I’m a mother." But what happens when those roles shift, evolve, or no longer belong to us? The most common reaction is to feel lost, as if our identity is crumbling alongside those titles.

Sheree encourages us to look beyond these labels and rediscover a fundamental truth: our identity is not built on the roles we hold. God’s Word declares it in Ephesians 1:5: "He predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will." This means that beyond everything we do, we are first and foremost beloved daughters of God. And that’s the only role that will never change. Roles may evolve or fade, responsibilities may increase or decrease, but our value in Christ and our identity as God’s daughters remain steady and unshakable.

When we root ourselves in this truth, our perspective on life shifts and we no longer seek approval through labels or achievements. So, the real question, in light of this Truth, becomes: “Am I living out my primary role as a called daughter of God?”

Practical Tips:

  • Each morning this week, declare a biblical truth about your identity out loud (e.g., "I am God’s beloved daughter" – Ephesians 1:5).
  • Think of a recent moment when you defined yourself through a role or achievement. How would you have responded differently if you had acted from your identity in Christ? Reflect on how you can do that next time.

Prayer: Lord, help me rediscover who I am in You. Today, I choose to anchor my identity in the truth that I am Your daughter—loved and accepted without conditions. Root this awareness deeply in my heart and teach me to live based on this truth in every circumstance. Even when roles change or situations shift, help me never forget who I am in You. Amen.
