Lift Your Eyes: 10 Days of Beholding Christ in Motherhoodਨਮੂਨਾ

Day 9: The Lord Is Your Sustainer
The Lord will keep your going out and your coming in from this time forth and forevermore.
—Psalm 121:8
As we reach the final verse of Psalm 121, we rejoice that the Lord is our Sustainer. This is good news because not only has he supported and guarded us in the past, but he also promises to keep us “from this time forth and forevermore.” Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8), and if you are united to Christ by faith, his care for you never ends.
Not only that, but “your going out and your coming in” includes every aspect of your life as a mom. God is there to sustain you when you are overstimulated and overwhelmed or when you feel like you’ve blown it and need a fresh start. You can lift your eyes to God’s sustaining presence even when battling grief, fear, or sheer exhaustion.
The people and seasons of your life will inevitably change over time. Your children will grow into adults and leave your home, and you yourself will grow older and face new freedoms and challenges in your relationships. You may experience suffering along the way, but you can trust that God’s unchanging nature and promises go before you, so there is no need to fear the future. In reality, your future is incredibly bright! As missionary Adoniram Judson once said, “He has not led me so tenderly thus far to forsake me at the very gate of heaven.” Under this kind of protection, you can walk through motherhood without fear, knowing God will sustain you every step of the way.
Someday we will be able to see God as he already sees us. “For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known” (1 Corinthians 13:12). Until then, we can echo the psalmist in proclaiming, “Surely God is my help; the Lord is the one who sustains me” (Psalm 54:4 NIV).
