Lift Your Eyes: 10 Days of Beholding Christ in Motherhoodਨਮੂਨਾ

Day 7: The Lord Is Your Comfort
The sun shall not strike you by day, nor the moon by night.
—Psalm 121:6
In the sixth verse of Psalm 121, the psalmist draws our attention to the sun and the moon. When this psalm was written, people commonly believed that these celestial bodies were not just inanimate sources of light, but powerful deities that could affect their daily lives. But the psalmist reminds us in this verse that only God has ultimate authority. Nothing that happens, whether in the middle of the day or late at night, is beyond God’s control. He is always present, always aware, and always looking after us.
As believers, we have the assurance that, ultimately, nothing can harm us because nothing can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus (Romans 8:38-39). The trials we face as moms, whether feelings of depression and anxiety or days that make us question our calling, will not strike us. In other words, they cannot cause real, lasting harm. God is with us; nothing the world throws at us is outside his loving dominion.
When we think of comfort, many of us think of ease. But in stark contrast to this view, Jesus, in John 17, was preparing to give his life for the sins of the world. Instead of asking for comfort or ease, he selflessly prayed to the Father to keep his followers in his name, protect them from evil, and sanctify them in the truth (John 17:13-19). Instead of receiving comfort, Jesus was tortured in our place. By giving his life for our sins, he was securing eternal comfort for those who deserved death. The cross shows us just how deep his love is for us!
The only true and lasting comfort we will ever have in life comes from knowing this God, and one of the surest ways to know him is through his Word. From Genesis to Revelation, we see God’s glorious plan of redemption unfold. We know the end of the story—he is making all things new!—and this hope for eternal security and rest brings great comfort.
I pray that you will learn to lift your eyes to the one who already has his eyes on you. He is never surprised by your trials or unmoved by your pain. He draws near us with gentleness, compassion, and understanding. He is our great comforter.
