The Fatherless Journey for Guys

DAY 5 OF 10

Day 5 - Talking to God

Always Someone to Talk To

My whole life, I’ve gotten into trouble for talking, not because I was saying anything wrong, but simply because I was talking when I wasn’t supposed to.

It started in kindergarten, when I got in trouble for chatting during class. Unfortunately, it didn’t stop there. From elementary school through college, I found myself being corrected for talking at the wrong time. Even at work, I’ve been told I was “socializing too much.” I guess you could say I’m a natural “social bug.” I love to talk!

I’m not proud of getting in trouble for it, but those situations happened. Over time, I’ve learned (and am still learning) how to control the urge to speak at the wrong time. But here’s one thing I’ve never had to hold back—talking to God.

During my fatherless journey, one of the biggest comforts I’ve had is knowing that God is always there to listen. Even in the loneliest moments, when no one else was around, I could always talk to Him, and He would speak back to me through His Word.

I truly believe I wouldn’t have made it through without His listening ear.

I challenge you today to talk to God. He’s ready to listen, and it will make the journey so much easier.

CHALLENGE:

In today’s world, we have more ways than ever to communicate—texts, calls, emails, social media... yet, sometimes, we still feel like there’s no one to talk to.

Do you ever feel that way?

Here’s a beautiful truth: you can talk to God anytime, anywhere. You don’t need a password or a phone. You don’t even have to speak out loud. Just start talking—He’s always there and always listening.

King David is a great example of someone who poured out his heart to God. The book of Psalms is full of David’s conversations with the Lord. Some are joyful, some are full of sorrow, but all of them show us how real and personal his relationship with God was.

David wasn’t perfect, but he knew where to take his burdens. The Bible says in 1 Samuel 13:14 and Acts 13:22 that David was a man after God’s own heart.

What about you?

Who do you talk to in the hard times? Who do you go to when you’re celebrating? Who will you turn to tomorrow?

James 5:16b (NKJV) reminds us: “The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.” In other words, talking to God changes things. Prayer makes a difference.

ACTION STEP:
Take a few minutes to write a personal note to God.
Thank Him for the blessings in your life. Tell Him about your struggles. Be honest.
Keep the note somewhere safe, and look back at it later to see how God has answered and worked in your life.

SUGGESTED PRAYER:
Dear Lord, thank You for loving me and always being there to listen. Thank You that I can come to You anytime. Help me to talk to You more and trust You with all my struggles. I pray that You’ll guide me through my fatherless journey and give me peace as I grow in my relationship with You. Amen.
