Why Jesus Says: Do Not Be Anxious

Dag 8 av 9

Battling anxiety through prayer “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.” (Philippians 4:6) The church in Philippi faced opposition. The apostle Paul wrote a letter, assuring them, “I hold you in my heart” and “I yearn for you all with the affection of Christ Jesus.” But Paul himself was in prison for his faith and was awaiting trial. The Philippians had good reason to be anxious and troubled, both about themselves and about Paul! And yet, Paul told them to “rejoice in the Lord always” and to “not be anxious about anything.” Of course, Paul knew he could not just command people to rejoice instead of being anxious. So, he shared valuable advice on how to battle anxiety. No matter what happens, we can tell God about everything and leave our worries and requests in His hands. If we do that, “the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:7). This peace of God can be experienced when we are united with Christ Jesus, and it is an effective protection against anxiety. As Jesus told His disciples, “I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world” (John 16:33). When you have brought your concerns to God, do you know this peace? What helps you find more peace?
