The third reason listed is insufficient rewards for effort. When I was a teenager, a carnival offered to pay me $10 to help set up the Ferris Wheel. Initially, it seemed like good money, but the job took 10 hours, in over 100 degrees weather. What began as excitement to make some quick cash turned into great frustration. In the same way, some of your managers may be working hard and feeling underappreciated for their efforts. James 5:4 teaches, “Look! The wages you failed to pay the workers who mowed your fields are crying out against you…” We are to be content with our wages, but employers also need to pay reasonable wages. ## Questions For Reflection * When was payroll last assessed? What were you paying your employees for? Have they taken on more responsibility since it was last assessed? Do their paychecks reflect their hard work? Has the business at large been bringing in more revenue? How might it be better distributed to encourage those responsible for the increase? * What is the cost of living in your city or town? Are your employees receiving enough from your business to support themselves? Are there aspects of your business that are financially draining you unnecessarily?
