A Biblical Perspective on Death and Life

Dag 3 av 9

The Lord Jesus Christ was ready to die for us “But we see him who for a little while was made lower than the angels, namely Jesus, crowned with glory and honor because of the suffering of death, so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone.” (Hebrews 2:9) God is eternal. He has no beginning and no end. Death has no hold over Him. But God the Son was willing to become man, take our sin upon Himself, and die in our place. He was nailed to a cross and died a horrific death. Then His body was wrapped in cloths and buried. A greater humiliation could hardly be imagined for the almighty Creator of the universe! Jesus' death is the greatest demonstration of love mankind has ever seen. As Romans 5 puts it, we can still imagine someone willing to die for a close friend or loved one. A hero in a good story might do that. But Jesus' sacrifice went much further. He died for people who were hostile towards Him and constantly accumulated guilt by sinning against God. Jesus’ love came from one side. Why was Jesus’ death necessary? By dying in our place, He bore the penalty for sin to the very end. Everyone who believes in Him is therefore freed from the penalty of sin, including eternal death. In this way, the power of death is broken. Would you be willing to die in someone else's place?

A Biblical Perspective on Death and Life

Death is part of life. Or so we tend to think. But the Lord God has conquered death. He offers us eternal life. Connected to Him, we experience a fullness of life in body and soul.
