Perseverance: A Study in Jude

Dag 2 av 3

What does it say? Jude uses a series of Old Testament examples to illustrate the destructiveness of false teachers. What does it mean? False teaching is nothing new - since the very beginning, God's truth has been distorted and refuted. Just as Sodom and Gomorrah were destroyed because of their sinfulness, false teachers face impending judgment. Like the disobedience of Cain, these false teachers have chosen evil over good. Like Balaam, they have chosen greed over generosity. Like Korah, who rose against Moses and was swallowed into the earth, these false teachers will face severe judgment one day. Jude's use of the Old Testament clearly indicates that God's response to the persistent disregard for His Name, His people, and His glory will not go unanswered. How do I respond? Every believer must be vigilant against false teaching. Like all of these examples, false teaching creeps in, infiltrates God's people, and wreaks havoc in the church. We primarily contend against false teaching by knowing God's Word. It is no accident Jude uses biblical examples of false teaching to drive His point home. The Scriptures root us in God's truth and are the primary weapon we have against false teaching that stands opposed to God. Are you regularly reading God's Word? Commit today to saturate your life and mind with God's truth!
