David’s son Solomon builds the temple his father had dreamed of. It was a celebration to remember with processions, music, and singing. The Lord was given a permanent place of residence amongst his people. The glory of the Lord fills the Temple and is so thick that the priests are not able to fulfill their duties. Although completing the Temple and possessing God-given wisdom, Solomon does what the Lord warned the people of Israel against, marrying into many different nations. Gradually his heart is turned away to many other gods and idols. Sadly, this was a pattern that would continue amongst Israel’s kings for generations to come and would have disastrous consequences as the promises and laws of the Lord were slowly forgotten.
