The Good Life

Dag 8 av 20

When Abraham left his homeland, his nephew, Lot, came with him. God blessed the flocks and herds of both men so greatly that the same land couldn’t sustain them both, so they had to go their separate ways. Abraham gave Lot a generous option: He told Lot to look over the land and choose which land he would like. “Lot looked around and saw that the whole plain of the Jordan toward Zoar was well watered, like the garden of the Lord, like the land of Egypt” (Genesis 13:10). Lot chose the more lush, more bountiful land. It seemed like Abraham had made a mistake. He got the short end of the stick. Wouldn’t it have been wiser to choose the better land? But Abraham kept following God. He built an altar to the Lord on his new land. Sadly, Lot did not do the same. Lot became tempted by the neighboring cities of Sodom and Gomorrah, and it led to his ruin. Abraham might have ended up with the less-lush land, but he chose to continue walking with God, and God blessed him abundantly for it. That was the greater treasure.
