Power: Power belongs to God. He is God Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth. He has all power over all things at all times. Arthur Pink in his book, The Attributes of God quotes Stephen Charnock, "The power of God is that ability and strength whereby He can bring to pass whatever He pleases, whatever His infinite wisdom may direct, and whatever the infinite purity of His will may resolve ... As holiness is the beauty of all God's attributes, so power is that which gives life and action to all the perfections of the divine nature. How vain would be the eternal counsels, if power did not step in to execute them? Without power—His mercy would be but feeble pity, His promises an empty sound, His threatenings a mere scarecrow. God's power is like Himself—infinite, eternal, incomprehensible; it can neither be checked, restrained, nor frustrated by the creature!" In our salvation, God imparted His Spirit to us. The same power that raised Christ from the dead dwells within us. The Spirit of God is in us and we are in Him. By grace, through faith, in the power of the Holy Spirit, we can overcome our sin and obey His Word. We are weak, but the Spirit of God is strong. It is in His power that we are able to do far more than we could ever ask or imagine according to His power and Christ is glorified! Abba Father, fill me with your hope and all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit I may abound in hope. I need your strength to say no to my sinful desires and deny my flesh. I need your strength to mortify my obstinate will and wrong ways of thinking. I need your strength to walk forward by faith in the face of fear. Grant me wisdom to know when I am relying on my own strength. Help me trust in the Holy Spirit to empower me to overcome my sin and weakness. In Jesus' name. Amen.
