The Choosing of David Prøve
Stay Faithful
God wants us to stay faithful in the fields to then be faithful on the throne. Most likely, none of us will actually be on a throne like David, but there is a lot that we can learn from his life and apply to ours.
Before David was ever chosen as king, he was a faithful shepherd. All of us can be like David and stay faithful to God right where we are. Wherever you are at this moment, keep letting God do what He wants to do in your heart. Go through the good and bad with Him. He is calling us to stay faithful and trust Him.
Through the years as a leader, I have learned to hire the heart and teach the skill. If you get somebody with excellent skill but the wrong heart, this usually becomes a problem. If you give any employer an honest, goal-oriented, passionate, hard worker, they can pretty much teach them anything. They will most likely be one of the best employees because they not only have their heart in the right place, but are committed. He who is faithful with little will be faithful with much. Obviously, you cannot have someone do brain surgery just because they have a good heart or attitude. I am not negating the need for the right skills, but it is important to start with having a good heart. Stay faithful in the fields with your heart.
The second point of application is looking past people’s appearances to their hearts. If you can see past all the décor or hype, and really see the person’s heart, you will have a better relationship. Whether it is with an employee, friendship, spouse or any other relationship, you will walk with others more closely when you see their heart. People see the outside; God sees the heart.
Every single one of us is, as David was, an unlikely choice. We are so unlikely that Jesus offered salvation to us. While we were yet sinners, He died for us. We are unlikely choices for the successes God has given us and all that He allows us to see or do.
Take some time today and think about the areas in your life where you were the most unlikely, yet God came through. Give thanks to Him for choosing you to have a relationship with Him. He knows where you are right now and sees your heart. He chose you!
Stay faithful and just as David, go after God’s own heart.

The obvious choice is not always God’s choice: that’s what David shows us. Just as David was an unlikely selection, so are we, but God chose us! Let’s be faithful where we are, knowing that God sees our hearts and takes us wherever He wants us to be.
