Jesus & Issues Everyone Faces - Disciple Makers Series #18Prøve
Costly Sinfulness
Thoughts on the message
How seriously do we take sin? How seriously do we take it if we cause someone to stumble in their faith?
Not seriously enough.
Jesus said it is better to be without sight, without limbs – none of them are worth keeping if we end up in a life of sin. Eyesight, hands, feet, will all be gone when we die, but the effects of sin are for eternity.
Also, Jesus says it is better to die than to cause a child to turn from God and live a life of sin. This is not us sinning, but living a life so that others turn from God. This is children physically (they are easily led astray) or children spiritually (they do not know how to follow God properly). Treat both of these groups the same way – with great care.
Take sin seriously.
Prayer
Father, today is a difficult day for me. Still, my heart must not sin. Help me I pray. Give me the strength that I need. Of even greater concern to me is how I honor You in the eyes of spiritual children – they watch how I will respond. May they never be led astray because they follow me. May they never be offended with Jesus because they watch me. So guard my tongue, my hands, my feet, my eyes today. I ask this in Jesus’ name Amen.

Matthew writes to God’s people and walks them on a journey that will take them from where they are to be Disciple Makers. This is 18 of 27 devotional plans walking us through the book of Matthew. Jesus now works through a series of issues over the next few chapters. This week Jesus comes down from the mount of Transfiguration – and faces many different issues.
