God And My Emotions: Devotions From Time Of Grace

Dag 1 av 14

Prophet With The Blues What could be better than a direct line straight from God? Wouldn’t it make life wonderful if you could see ahead into the future? Well, maybe not. The Old Testament prophet Jeremiah did have that ability, but it brought him a great deal of pain. So much pain, in fact, that Jeremiah’s nickname is the “weeping prophet.” God let him see what was coming for Israel. He saw military disaster, plundering armies, burning cities, and national captivity. “Oh, that my head were a spring of water and my eyes a fountain of tears!” he said (Jeremiah 9:1). But Jeremiah was also allowed to foresee the return from captivity and the successful arrival of the Messiah, Jesus Christ, who became the fulfillment of God’s original covenant promises to the nation He loved. Be glad you can’t see too far ahead in your own life. There are probably enough hardships and bitter blows coming to make you weep like a fountain too. Be content with knowing that the Lord is already living in your future, has seen it all, and guarantees your safe arrival in heaven. Rejoice to know that your sins of past, present, and future are already forgiven in Christ; that God’s grace will be sufficient each day to help you survive and thrive and live out the full measure of life that God has ordained; and that through His grace you will complete your mission. Sleep well tonight.
