The Angels Proclaim the Birth of Christ to the Shepherds

And what a fitting and thrilling portion of scripture to read with celebration and thanksgiving! The Comforter has come, the Promised One. Today is a day for worship!

And just as the choir of angels proclaimed the birth of Christ to the shepherds, let’s proclaim it together today. It is a day for singing, after all!

So, whether you’re alone or surrounded by friends or family, would you sing with us what the angels sang that day: Gloria in excels is Deo (the Latin for “Glory to God in the highest”).

Angels We Have Heard On High

Angels we have heard on high
Sweetly singing o’er the plains
And the mountains in reply
Echoing their joyous strains

CHORUS:
Gloria, in excelsis Deo!

Shepherds, why this jubilee?
Why your joyous strains prolong?
What the gladsome tidings be
Which inspire your heavenly song? Chorus

Come to Bethlehem and see
Him Whose birth the angels sing;

Christ the Lord, the newborn King. Chorus

See Him in a manger laid
Jesus Lord of heaven and earth;

Merry Christmas, precious friends. I want to leave you with a traditional prayer for Christmas day from The Book of Common Prayer (1789), a little old-school in its wording, but so rich and worshipful in truth. Pray it with us today?

A Christmas Prayer

Almighty God,
who hast given us thy only-begotten Son to take our nature upon him and as at this time to be born of a pure virgin:
Grant that we, being regenerate and made thy children by adoption and grace, may daily be renewed by thy Holy Spirit;
through the same our Lord Jesus Christ,who liveth and reigneth with thee and the same Spirit ever, one God, world without end. Amen.
