Embracing Silence
Zechariah was a Jewish priest married to Elizabeth. They were both pretty old and sadly didn’t have any children. One day, the angel Gabriel told Zechariah that his wife was going to have a child named John—with a huge calling on his life.
Let that sink in. A visible angel delivered this message to Zechariah. But here’s the crazy thing. After the angel delivered the wonderful news that Elizabeth was going to have a child and all the amazing things this child would grow up to do, Zechariah still questioned how this could be true—right to the angel’s face!
Because of Zechariah’s doubts, he had something taken from him that he needed: his voice. Maybe God knew Zechariah’s doubts would’ve discouraged Elizabeth’s faith that God would do what Gabriel said He’d do.
Have you ever had something you needed, desired, or loved taken from you? Do you think God might be trying teach you through removing that thing?
This season you’re in may be uncomfortable, but remember it's temporary. God returned Zechariah's voice. It was never lost. Embrace the silence, and believe He always keeps His promises.
