The Top 5 Things God Calls You to Steward — and Why Money Comes Lastഉദാഹരണം

#5. Money & Resources
When most Christians hear the word “stewardship,” they immediately think of money. Tithing, giving, budgeting, and generosity – these are the topics that come up in sermons, offering talks, and financial seminars. And for good reason. Scripture has a lot to say about wealth.
But just because financial stewardship is the most talked about doesn’t mean it’s the most important.
In fact, it’s the final item in this five-part series – not because it doesn’t matter, but because it only matters in light of the others. Money is a powerful tool, but it is only temporary. It can serve eternal purposes – but is not eternal itself.
That’s why money and resources are ranked #5 on our Top 5 Stewardship list.
Stewarding our finances and other resources well is essential, but only when it flows from a life already surrendered to the gospel, shaped by loving relationships, governed by wise use of time, and lived through God-given gifts.
If money becomes the main thing – or the first thing – it distorts everything else. Just as Jesus said:
“No one can serve two masters... You cannot serve both God and money.” – Matthew 6:24b NIV
Basically, financial stewardship is a test of the heart. Not because money is evil, but because it competes for our ultimate trust. The way we give, spend, save, and invest reflects who we really believe is in control.
There is so much more to say about this that we’ve written an entire reading plan about it: “Faith-Driven Impact Investor: What the Bible Says”, and this is recommended as a great follow-up to this reading plan.
The short summary is this: you don’t give because you’re rich. You are enriched so that you can give – generously, freely, and joyfully.
But beware! Even generous giving can miss the mark if it’s disconnected from the gospel.
A life of good deeds, smart investing, or big donations might look admirable from a worldly point of view. But if it doesn’t reflect the grace and truth of Christ – if it doesn’t serve the work of the Kingdom – then it’s not truly Christian stewardship. You can read more about that later in the companion reading plan “Faith-Driven Impact Investor: What the Bible Says.”
As we close, ask yourself these questions:
Is your money serving your mission to total stewardship, starting with the gospel?
Or has your mission been reduced to managing your money just to do good?
Let’s be clear. God isn’t asking you to give everything away or to live in poverty. But He is asking you to steward it for His eternal purposes, starting with your stewardship of the gospel.
Money isn’t just a resource; it’s a revealer.
And how you steward it tells a bigger story about what – and who – you truly treasure.

Most Christians assume stewardship is mainly about money — and while that’s part of it, it’s far from the whole story. What if there are other areas God cares about even more? This Top Five devotional will challenge your assumptions and invite you to consider a surprising biblical list of the top five things every Christian is called to steward. You might be managing your money… but what else have you been entrusted with?
