#3. Time

You never seem to have enough of it. It slips away quickly. And once it’s gone, you can’t get it back.

Time is one of the most fragile and valuable parts of life. And Scripture teaches that it’s not something to take for granted. Like our words, our decisions, and our relationships, how we use our time reveals what’s really going on in our hearts.

Every day is filled with small decisions: what to focus on, who to spend time with, what to start, what to delay. And those decisions reflect your priorities. They show what you truly value.

This is why time sits at #3 on the list of Christian stewardship. It’s not eternal like the gospel, and it doesn’t carry the same relational weight as your influence on others. But it is the container in which all your other stewardship decisions take place. You can’t share the gospel, nurture a relationship, or use your gifts if you’ve given all your time to lesser things.

It is just as the Apostle Paul teaches:

“Be very careful, then, how you live – not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.” – Ephesians 5:15-16 NIV

The Bible does not teach that you have to be busy all the time. In fact, some of the most faithful uses of time involve rest, prayer, worship, and being present with people.

The question isn’t “Am I doing enough?”

Rather, the question is “Am I using my time in a way that honors God?”

Jesus was never in a rush, but He was always purposeful. He took time to pray. He stopped to heal. He made space for people others ignored. And in just a few years of public ministry, He fulfilled the greatest mission the world has ever seen – not through hustle, but through obedience.

The psalmist offers a simple and powerful prayer:

“Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.” – Psalm 90:12 NIV

That verse isn’t meant to create pressure. It’s meant to create clarity. Your days are numbered. You don’t control how many you get. But you can decide what you do with the ones you’ve been given.

Ask yourself these questions:

Have I set aside time to pray?
To be with people who matter?
To serve? To rest? To repent? To grow?
To enjoy the gifts God has already given me?

Time stewardship isn’t about squeezing in more. It’s about choosing what matters most – and letting the rest fall away.

Because in the end, you’re not just spending time. You’re stewarding it for His Kingdom, not yours.

And how you do this reveals who – or what – you’re really living for.
