The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance (2 Peter 3:9).

Why hasn't Jesus yet returned?

There have been mockers for two thousand years asking, "Where is the promise of His coming?" (2 Peter 3:4). Their words imply that Jesus isn't coming back; however, our Lord doesn't operate based upon an earthly timetable. The Lord had Noah preach for 120 years to the people while the ark was prepared. Yet Moses records the Lord's statement: "My Spirit shall not strive with man forever, for he is indeed flesh; yet his days shall be one hundred and twenty years" (Genesis 6:3). As God set a time limit for the earthly inhabitants prior to the flood to repent or be judged, He will do the same with Jesus' return. Both situations speak about His longsuffering.

Employment Point: Faithfully witness to others, knowing that time is fleeting.
