Catechism: What Is the Mission?

3 ദിവസത്തിൽ 2 ദിവസം

If you’ve never done it before, you should know that gardening is not a “one and done” type of project. If you’re looking for instant gratification, growing plants won’t be your thing. It takes time, effort, and patience, but there’s nothing quite as satisfying as seeing a tiny seed become a flourishing plant that brings beauty and bears fruit.

God’s story begins in a beautiful garden called Eden. God gave the first people, Adam and Eve, the task of tending and taking care of Eden, and that role continues today. God designed people to care for his creation, just like a gardener works for the flourishing of his or her garden.

As God’s people, our mission is to see the world flourish. Living on mission is more than evangelizing—it’s caring for the physical creation and our culture at large. It’s seeing what’s broken in our society and joining God in his mission to redeem it and make it new.

So even if you’ve never tended an actual garden, God has called you to cultivate his garden—this world—and help it flourish and grow.

Read Genesis 2:7-9, 15

Reflection Questions:

  • What does this passage show us about the relationship between God and his creation? How are humans set apart from everything else God created?
  • How would you describe a Christian’s role in culture: to withdraw from it or engage with it? Why do you think some Christians withdraw? How can our approach be different?
  • What are some ways God could use you to change the world around you and help it grow? Ask God to show you how you can live on mission wherever he’s placed you, in big and small ways.

Catechism: What Is the Mission?

We tend to think that mission work is for people with a unique spiritual calling, but it’s not; it’s for every Christian, in every place, and at every time. The best part is that God empowers us for living on mission. Unpack the mission God has called you to in this three-day devotional designed to go along with Catechism's Made For A Mission small group series, part 1 of 4.
