Catechism: What Is the Mission?ഉദാഹരണം

We tend to think of missions as something we “do:” we sign up for a trip, donate money to a cause, or memorize a gospel presentation to share with strangers. And while those are definitely good things, living out God’s mission goes beyond what we do; it’s part of who God made us to be.

In order to get this, we’ve got to go back (way back) to the very beginning, and look at God’s purpose for creating people: to reflect his image and goodness into the world. God gave the very first humans, Adam and Eve, the glorious task of caring for creation and serving as his representatives on earth. But when Adam and Eve sinned, they became corrupt. Not just that, but sin corrupted all of creation. And so God’s mission is now one of redemption, that people would be restored to the glory and goodness God originally created them to enjoy.

When we trust Jesus, God invites us to join this ongoing mission wherever we are, with whatever talents and skills we have, so that all people in all places can know God and enjoy him forever.

• As you look at the world around you, where do you see brokenness and the need for restoration?
• What are some ways you can help restore the goodness and beauty of God’s creation? Think about the specific contexts where you have influence, and ask God to show you how he can use your gifts and talents in those places.
