VIEŠPATS Dievas tarė: „Negera žmogui būti vienam. Padarysiu jam tinkamą bendrininką“. Taigi VIEŠPATS Dievas padarė iš žemės visus laukinius gyvulius bei visus padangių paukščius ir atvedė juos pas žmogų pamatyti, kaip jis juos pavadins. Kokiu vardu žmogus pavadins kiekvieną gyvą būtybę, toks turės būti jos vardas. Žmogus davė vardus visiems galvijams, visiems padangių paukščiams ir visiems laukiniams žvėrims, tačiau sau tinkamo bendrininko nerado. Tuomet VIEŠPATS Dievas užmigdė žmogų giliu miegu ir, jam miegant, išėmė vieną šonkaulį, o jo vietą užpildė raumenimis. O iš šonkaulio, kurį buvo išėmęs iš žmogaus, VIEŠPATS Dievas padarė moterį ir atvedė ją pas žmogų. O žmogus ištarė: „Štai pagaliau kaulas mano kaulų ir kūnas mano kūno. Ji bus vadinama žmona, nes iš savo žmogaus buvo paimta“. Todėl vyras paliks tėvą ir motiną, glausis prie žmonos, ir jie taps vienu kūnu. Jiedu buvo nuogi, žmogus ir jo žmona, tačiau nejautė jokios gėdos.
