Habit 2: Mature Disciples Study the Bible

Mature disciples of Jesus learn to love the Bible, its promises, and its comfort.

One of my all-time favorite chapters of the entire Bible is Psalm 119. It’s the longest chapter in the Bible, and all 176 verses shout David’s love for the hearing and studying of God’s Word.

In the Bible, we find direction, purpose, protection, conviction, love, hope, and faith. In fact, our faith is rooted in believing what God says to us. We memorize it, meditate on it, and declare it. It becomes health to our bones and our spirit. We learn to listen to and recognize God’s voice as we read his Word daily.

The best way to read the Bible is to adopt your own daily plan. Some read a couple of chapters from each of the Old and New Testaments daily. Some read from the beginning to the end. But having a daily habit will definitely help you make this a priority.

Think of it: the King of the Universe has left a love letter for us. Why would we not want to read it, memorize it, and help others hear about it?
