7 Habits of a Mature Disciple

Who among us hasn’t struggled with bad habits? They are hard to form but even harder to break. In this daily plan, we will talk about seven habits that will cause us to excel as disciples of Jesus. Over time, these habits become our friend, helping us reach our greatest fruitfulness.

Good habits strengthen us, but bad habits weaken us. A habit is defined as “an acquired behavior pattern regularly followed until it has become almost involuntary."

So what kind of habits do we need to discover our God-given potential? Sinful habits destroy our potential, but godly habits are disciplines that help us become over-comers. We need habits that honor God, habits that help us love people, and habits that urge us to keep growing and learning the ways of our Lord.

In high school, I was focused on two things: getting good grades and enjoying my friends.

As an adult, things are similar. God wants us to keep learning and also to enjoy our friends and family. These are habits that will set the pace for generations to come.

Let me give you a bonus tip. There are two vital things I have learned so far:

  1. The older you get, the faster life goes. If you’re thirty or more years old, you’ll agree. So enjoy today!
  2. Most things in life turn out differently than we expect. Some things in life are better, some are worse, but most are just different. So be flexible!

What does all this tell me? First, I must make each day count; I don’t have a day to waste! And second, I must make my plans, but let God direct my steps. I must hold my expectations loosely and keep my grip tight on God’s hand.

Since our time is going fast, let’s start making godly habits in our lives today!
