When I’m Exhausted

I keep thinking that one day I will catch up. That one day my to-do list will finally all be to-done.

It’s okay to laugh at that. I have to kind of chuckle myself. Because there is always something more to do, isn’t there?

The world is a noisy, needy, clamoring thing that’s so hard to ignore. And, yes, much of what finds itself on our to-do lists really does need to be done.

The mistake I make far too often, though, is trying to do it all on my own strength. Why do I do that? Especially when Jesus invites me to let Him do the heavy lifting! I think I sometimes just get too busy to remember.

I forget that His help is mine for the asking. I forget that His wisdom is always there to help me sort out what truly does and does not need to be done. And I forget that my spirit can find sweet rest in Him even as I go through my day and check those items off my list.

So, will you join me in remembering?

To Pray:

I am so tired, Lord.
I feel as if I run and run all day and accomplish nothing. I’m chasing after the wind, like Solomon said, and I’m exhausted because I can’t catch it.
Night comes, and I crash into my pillow. Even my dreams are filled with the same rush and hurry of my days. When morning arrives, the whirlwind picks up and begins all over again.
I need a nap. I need a vacation. I need . . . You.
Quiet the chaos, Lord.
I kneel here in this moment of prayer. This moment that’s just You and me. I close my eyes and lean my head against Your knee. I can almost feel Your hand upon me as You whisper, I will give you the rest you need.
My heart slows, and my mind clears. Whether it’s been a moment, a minute, or an hour, I am refreshed here in Your presence. In this moment that’s just You and me.
Amen.
