Expressions of Worship

In my childhood, I recall the excitement in our church over Scripture sung not from the hymnal, but directly from the Bible. It was a time of intense consideration of worship not only from the familiar hymn writers, but from the original songs of the first worshippers and followers of God.

Worshipping God is the greatest work we can do. Colossians 3:23 challenges that whatever we do can and should be in worship of God. We can declare our allegiance as Habakkuk, or revel in the long history of the outstanding works of God shared by the author of Hebrews. There are so many examples in the Bible of His people being overwhelmed with gratefulness and bursting into songs to honor Him. Sometimes this was done formally, and other times were spontaneous.

What expression of worship can you offer today?

  • Challenge yourself to list all of the ways God has directed your path and blessed a history of bringing you to Himself.
  • Declare your love for Him in corporate worship.
  • Privately declare your commitment of all that you have and all that you are.
  • Whatever you do today, recognize that the Lord is with you and you can do your best as a gift to Him.

He is worthy and delights in our recognition and expression of love for Him.

LIVING HOPE - Reading With the People of God: Part 18

In this 18th installment of Reading with the People of God, we follow a lectionary rhythm of Old Testament, New Testament, and Psalms. This plan journeys through Isaiah 40–66, where God speaks comfort, reveals His Servant, and promises new creation. Alongside Isaiah, we read Titus, Philemon, Hebrews, James, and 1and 2 Peter—letters that call us to endurance, holiness, and hope in Christ. Together these readings point us to the living hope we have through the gospel. May the Spirit strengthen our faith and anchor us in God’s everlasting promises.
