BUILDING CONFIDENCE THROUGH ASSURANCE

There are times when life will throw darts at your heart, and the devil will whisper doubts into your ears. John says, “And hereby we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before him. For if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things. Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, then have we confidence toward God” (1 John 3:19–21). Notice, confidence flows when your heart is assured, and your assurance must be built on truth, not emotion. Just as a wife sometimes asks her husband to reassure her of his love, so must you reassure your heart continually with the promises of God.

David settled this matter when he said, “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want” (Psalm 23:1). He did not say, “The Lord was” or “The Lord will be.” He personalised God as his present Shepherd. That assurance gave him confidence even in the valley of the shadow of death. In the same way, you must personalise God’s Word until it becomes your own testimony. It is not enough that someone else says “God is faithful”; you must judge Him faithful yourself. Without this persuasion, your confidence will waver when trials come.

Build assurance by constantly feeding on the Word and rehearsing God’s dealings in your life. When the devil tries to condemn you with past failures or lingering delays, remind your heart of God’s truth: He is greater than your heart. The devil may magnify your mistakes, but God magnifies His mercy. Strengthen your confidence daily by declaring, “The Lord is… to me.” Let it not remain another man’s experience; make it yours. That is how confidence in prayer becomes unshakable.

THOUGHT TO PONDER:
How often do I reassure my heart with God’s Word? Have I personalised God as my Shepherd, or am I living on another man’s revelation?

PRAYER:
Father, assure my heart daily with Your truth, and help me to personalise Your Word until it becomes my living testimony. Amen.
