Be Generous With Your Talent

God made you so awesome and so wonderful! The Book of Psalms in the Bible teaches that one way you can thank and praise God is by saying to Him, “You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb. Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous — how well I know it” (139:13-14, NLT).

Yes, you might have some things about you that are similar to other people you know — like if your hair color and your love of pizza match your brother’s, or maybe your sister has the same freckles or your best friend has the same favorite color. But even though some things about you might match others, there is still no one exactly like you. You are unique. That’s a fancy way to say that there is no one else exactly like you.

Since you are unique, you also have unique talents that don’t match anyone else’s exactly. And your talents are something that you can be generous with; you can use them to bless those around you.

Adji is a boy who lives in Cameroon, Africa. Adji is so good at building and fixing bicycles, which is important because many people love to ride their bicycles where he lives. And no bike stays perfect forever; they often need repairs to keep people riding them smoothly and safely. Have you ever had your bike break down and need some fixing?

Adji uses his talents working with bicycles to help people by keeping their bikes in good shape. And when he does, he also teaches people about God’s love. Adji doesn’t expect people to pay him money for building and fixing bikes; instead he tells people to use their own unique talents to keep sharing the love of God.

Maybe you’re also great with bikes, or maybe you’re not. You have talents and things you’re good at and enjoy doing that you can use to share God’s love. Think about the things you love and do best, and ask God to keep showing you the gifts and skills He has given you. Then also ask Him how and where He wants you to use those skills to bring Him praise and to love and serve people around you.

Prayer Point:

Dear God, You are so much greater than I could ever even dream of! I’m amazed by all the different talents and gifts You give to people to make everyone so unique! Help me and all people truly want to use our gifts and talents to help and serve other people and share Your love. Show me the ways You want me to be generous with my talents each day. Help me to be a good listener to You and obey You well. I love and worship You! Amen.
