DAY 2 OF 8

Your Attitude and Heart

You probably have a good attitude a lot of the time, but sometimes you might have a bad attitude about something. Like maybe the last time you were told to clean your room, you did it, but you stomped around with a frown the whole time.

Does that kind of bad attitude make the chore any easier? Or would a good attitude — maybe with some singing and dancing around — make cleaning your room easier to do and more fun?

Choosing to have a good attitude while doing something you really don’t want to do can make a big impact on your heart.

Jaslene is a girl who lives in the Philippines (that’s a country in Asia). When she was younger, she didn’t want to go with her parents to visit their neighbor Dan in the hospital. There were so many other things she wanted to do, like ride her bike and play with friends, instead of visiting a neighbor who was sick. But Jaslene’s mom said she had to go.

Jaslene wondered, “Why does it matter if I go? Why do I need to go pray for this person I barely know?” But as Jaslene stood in the hospital room with her family praying for Dan, something happened inside her. Her attitude stopped being grumpy and selfish as she focused on her neighbor instead of herself. And it changed her. It helped change Dan too! He came to know Jesus as his personal Lord and Savior, partly because of the visits from Jaslene and her family. Isn’t that cool?

Showing up and praying for Dan changed Jaslene’s attitude and her heart. She learned that prayer changes everything. And she learned that everything works out for good for those who love God (Romans 8:28), even if God doesn’t answer prayers just the way we want Him to.

When you spend time talking with God, you learn more about Him and become more like Him. And He gives you His wonderful peace and comfort that way too, even better than the kind you feel when someone wraps you in a cozy blanket or makes your favorite food. God loves you and takes care of you, no matter what.

Prayer Point

Dear God, thank You for loving me and teaching me about generosity. You sure are generous! In fact, You are so generous that You sent Your one and only Son, Jesus, to die on the cross for my sin. That is the greatest act of generosity and love the world has ever known! Please keep showing me more about how I can be generous. Help me do the good and loving things You want me to do, sharing all that You have given in the ways You want me to. I trust Your promises, and I want to learn more about You and Your love and blessings every day! Amen.
