See the great light
The thing about prophesy is it often has meaning for those who first heard it as well as for those to come. Diving into any individual section of the book of Isaiah is a recipe for disorientation as we seek to understand what these almighty words meant at the time and ongoing.
As we investigate all of Isaiah, we can instantly recognise in this passage so much of the hope anchored in Jesus (see Luke 1:26–33, John 14:27–31).
Pause to rejoice at the incredible impact of a ‘great light’ breaking through and banishing the darkness people walk within (Isaiah 9:2 NIV). Let us not take for granted the incredible overhaul dealt by God flicking the switch on sin’s sway.

About this Plan

“This Christmas season let’s remember that God’s promises are not like ours – fragile and sometimes forgotten – but are firm, fulfilled and forever. In every wrapped gift, flickering Christmas tree light and sung carol, may we see a reflection of the ultimate gift: Jesus, the righteous branch – our everlasting hope.” (The Promise of a Righteous Branch – Robbie Parkin)
