The Jar You're Holding

Devotion: Mary walked into that room holding her future in a jar. One year's salary. Her dowry. Her security. Her plan B. Everything she had, contained in alabaster.

Then she broke it.

We all carry jars. Yours might be your reputation, career, comfort, control, or relationship. It's that thing you're gripping so tightly that your knuckles are white. The thing you tell God, "Anything but this."

Mary didn't just open the jar and pour a little. She broke it. No going back. No saving some for later. No Plan B. Total surrender.

Here's what we miss: the jar was beautiful. Pure alabaster marble. Valuable in itself. Breaking it seemed wasteful. But Mary understood something the disciples didn't—Jesus was worth more than her most precious possession.

What jar are you holding? That dream you won't release? That hurt you won't forgive? That control you won't surrender? That comfort zone you won't leave?

Jesus isn't asking for a portion of your worship. He's not interested in your leftovers, your convenience, or your conditional obedience. He wants the jar broken. All of it. Poured out. Irreversible.

The disciples called it waste. Jesus called it worship. What you pour out for Jesus creates an eternal legacy. Two thousand years later, we're still talking about Mary's broken jar.

What will they say about yours?

Declaration: "I break my jar for Jesus today. I hold nothing back. My reputation, comfort, and control—all are His. I am all in."

Prayer: "Jesus, show me what jar I'm holding. Give me the courage to break it—completely, irreversibly, wastefully. You're worth more than my security, my plans, my comfort. Take everything. In Your name, amen."
